Telluride via Ophir Pass Highpoint elevation 11,789 ft The Silverton side follows a winding road through a narrow valley up through the tundra to a rocky summit. Once on the top, spectacular views of the high rise mountains to the west and the amazing valley below open up. The road winds down into this valley across a rocky road leading to the lush Aspen groves and on into the town of Ophir. If time allows, you will travel up to Alta Lakes before heading to Telluride. Lunch will be on your own in Telluride. You will have some time to walk around and visit some of the amenities Telluride has to offer before you begin your journey back to Ouray. The return trip to back to Ouray will take you over Imogene Pass, past the former site of the Tomboy Mine. The elevation at the summit is 13,114 ft. offering spectacular views of the Red Mountains to the east and Mt Sneffels to the north. The return tour heads down into the basin below, the former level 3 of the Camp Bird Mine and on into the Canyon Creek valley and on to Ouray. |
